Family 9.B.2 - The Ca2+ Homeostasis Protein Family

Family ID: 53385

Cells lacking Csg2p accumulate Ca2+ in a pool which is exchangeable with extracellular Ca2+. The mutant cells are Ca2+ sensitive. The protein has 410 amino acyl residues, with 9-10 transmembrane a-helical spanners (TMSs). It exhibits an EF-hand Ca2+ binding motif on the lumenal side of the endoplasmic reticular membrane. It is possible that it functions in Ca2+ sequestration instead of transport.
